As much as I am starting to get an itch to "get back to work," I really do love the fact that while I am not working, Roman and I can travel around and see our friends and family. Last weekend Marc, Roman, and I made the trip up north for a couple of baby showers. The first was for our friends Justin and Katy, who will be having a little girl named Gracye in just a couple of months, and the other shower was for my Sarah-bo-barah!! Ah!! I am really just ecstatic that Sarah and I are starting our families at the same time... especially since there was a time when Sarah and I both figured that we were never going to have children of our own; we were just going to be the cool/fun aunts. Fast-forward just a couple of years and now Rome is nearly six months old, and Sarah will be having TWINS: a boy and a girl. Their names are not being made public yet, so I won't out them until they arrive. OH!! I CANNOT wait to hold those little babies!!! Sarah is more than a friend; she's really a-sister-from-another-mister, so I figure those babies are part of my ever growing family, and I just want to kiss those little faces!! Sorry for all of the exclamation points... the excitement just gets me sometimes. Michelle was very kind to let me help out with Sarah's shower (not that I gave her much of a choice), and I think we did a great job. It was such a good day, and Sarah and Erik made out with a serious amount of loot!! Marc made Sarah's invitations, and I told her that they should have read, "Double the trouble, but double the fun; twins are expensive, buy two gifts not one," but she didn't even have to have a tacky little poem on her invite because her friends and family were very generous. But sadly, again, Sarah and I forgot to get a picture together. How does this keep happening?? But we do have pictures of the shower, and I will just post a couple of my favorites: the first is Sarah slowly unwrapping her gift because Deana said she was going too fast (and really Sarah was just trying to get through her mound-o-gifts) and the other is a picture of Deana and a sleeping Rome... so adorable.
When I wasn't doing baby shower stuff, Rome and I were hanging out and visiting with the family. I am so glad that our family is just a quick seven hour drive away... I really hate to fly, so we always drive, and Rome is a great traveler. He got to hang out with grandma, grandpa, aunties, uncles, and cousins. I love when he plays with other babies because he seems to advance overnight. It's as though he's just watching the other kids and thinking, "I can do that." What was really funny was watching him this time playing with his cousin Gentry. Romey is definitely NOT used to having to share his toys, and as soon as Gench would grab a toy he would try to take it back from her. The toy of choice for both of them was Sophie (that über popular teething giraffe), so when we got home I sent one to Gentry. Seriously every baby loves that thing... I think they dip it in baby-crack. We stayed up there for about a week and a half, and I think that that is about the limit for all of us. I was a bit tired of living out of my suitcase, and Peggy said as I was leaving, "I am so glad that you came to visit, but I am really looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow." Ha!! I know exactly how she was feeling... well... except for the sleeping in part. But I always have such a good time while I'm up there, and I know they enjoy seeing us. Bill and Peggy are on their way to Pennsylvania right now to visit the newest Riesenberg: baby Dylan. Brad and Kate had a son just over a month ago, and Bill and Peggy are finally getting the chance to get out there. Luckily Brad, Kate, and Dylan are coming out to the bay area in August so we'll be able to see that little boy soon, too. And depending on when Sarah needs me to come back, I may or may not be up there again before then... Now we just have to play the waiting game...
