Today was an absolutely amazing day. Marc, Romey, and I met up with our friends Mel, Joe, and Finn and April, Trent, Jack, and April's sister Lisa to have a little family fun at the Bates Nut Farm. I have not been to a pumpkin patch since I was about 10. On the way to Chico there is (was?) a little farm called the Book Family Farm where we would go on field trips to go pumpkin picking. I just remember absolutely loving that place, and I would always be so excited to ride on the tractor wagon and watch the Clydesdales. Those are good memories, and today I started what will hopefully be a fun tradition for Romey and his future brother or sister. We picked pumpkins, we rode the tractor wagon, we went through the straw maze, we drank fresh squeezed lemonade, and we absolutely baked in the sunny weather. When you plan something for October 15th your first thought isn't necessarily that you'll need shorts and a hat; I realize that I have lived down here long enough to know that October is usually quite warm, but I didn't realize it, and today it was pretty hot. But we all had a great time. I just cannot wait for Romey to start walking, because I think he would have had a great time running around with Finn out there, but he'll catch on soon enough. I was also super excited because Rome wore the Halloween shirt that I bought for him while I was pregnant... even though it has long sleeves. I did finally put him in a different shirt, but I wanted pictures of him in his Vader Halloween shirt darn it! And it was also a ton of fun because our friend Mel is from Australia, and apparently Halloween just isn't a big deal there, so she has never been to a pumpkin patch! It was so funny because when I told her that we were going she said, "Oh, that will be so thoroughly American." And I laughed because I never really thought of Halloween as being an American holiday, but I guess it is. OH!! And behold!! Look at the lovely pictures MY new camera took!! Hooray! Marc bought us a really awesome camera finally, and I am so excited that I now have a camera that won't ruin my happy little photos! Yay! So, needless to say, I went a little crazy with the pictures today. Enjoy!
