Our Big March Trip

Really this post is about a month overdue, so forgive me for playing a bit of catch-up. Back in January or February Sarah made plans to come down for a long weekend to visit before her twins arrived. Since she was coming down this way, we decided that she would fly down, but then we would drive back up together, so that I could visit my family in Walnut Creek. Then when Peggy heard that I was going to drive back down by myself, she decided to drive down with me and fly back home. So this was my big March plan (I told you this post is a little late). Sarah and I had a great weekend of shopping, spa-ing, eating, and hanging pictures in my house FINALLY. It was so nice to be able to spend some quality time with her since she is about to be super-duper busy when her little ones arrive. I just hope that I can be as helpful to her as she was for me when Roman was born.  I actually had this weird dream that I had to breastfeed one of her babies because she was overwhelmed... I am not so sure that this is what would happen, but apparently getting up there and helping out has been and is on my mind a lot. Anyhoo, I digress... So after our fun little trip down here, Sarah, Romey, and I headed to the bay area. I really think that it is important for Rome to see his grandparents and vice versa, so as long as I have this time when I am not taking any official classes, I figure I need to make as many trips up as possible. And Sarah... how is it possible that we didn't take even ONE picture?? We always fail at that.

Quite possibly the best part about being around Rome's grandparents (you know, besides being able to visit with them) is having an extra set of hands so that I have time to shower, eat, sleep, whatever... Oh... those were the days. The second that we got up there Bill grabbed Roman so that they could hang out, and that is probably where Rome spent the majority of his time. I think Peggy was trying to let Bill have more Roman time since she was coming back down with me. It really is amazing how different and "advanced" Rome has become since Christmas, when we were up there last. He so much more alert and definitely interacts with people more, but I think that Bill was a little upset that Rome wouldn't just sleep with him like last time... It's okay Bill; that makes me sad, too. We also got to hang out with Erica and her family... Erica and I even got a shopping trip in. Just the two of us, which hasn't happened since Pacen was born almost seven years ago. And Than's "Aunt" Kathy visited while I was there, and I was sooo excited! She's just a hoot and totally a Pace-Wilshusen girl at heart. It was a great trip, and Roman seemed to really like being around other kids, even though I think he was a bit overwhelmed at times by the noise. Since it's usually just he and I at the house everyday, he's not used to so much excitement.

Peggy and I had a great trip down. We gossiped the whole way down and solved the world's problems, and when Rome got a little too antsy in the back, she happily climbed into the backseat even though there was little room, and she got a decent cramp in her leg. Oh the things grandmas will happily endure. And I was really happy that she was able to get some real quality time in with us. We had some projects planned, and we did a few of them, but we also relaxed and got her addicted to Mad Men. Seriously, how good is that show?? Love it. She and Rome spent a lot of time in our swing chair on the back patio (thanks Ken and Lexy), and she would take him out there in the mornings so that I could sleep in... it was a bit of heaven. I jokingly started referring to her as our au pair, because she really did the vast majority of cooking and cleaning and diaper changing... she even pulled the weeds in the front yard and ironed Marc's shirts... COME BACK TO US PEGGY!! :)
