I have wanted to buy Rome a mobile for quite sometime now, but I couldn't find anything that I liked, or that seemed baby friendly. I mean, seriously, doesn't anyone design these things with a baby in mind? Go Google some images of mobiles (really, it's cool; I'll wait), and what you'll most likely notice is that they are super cute from the side... but a baby is staring at the BOTTOM of a mobile, so who cares what it looks like from the side? Has no one ever thought this through? Anyhoo, I finally found one on which the animals are interesting from the bottom, and it also plays music and has a night light, and Rome is in love. It's not much help for sleeping since he gets so excited when it is turned on, but the other day I folded all of his laundry that I had piled up in his bassinet while he lay on the bed "talking," giggling, and throwing himself about as he watched the little animals spin around. Really, I am as entertained watching Rome watching the mobile as he is watching the mobile... did you get all that? Good. What I am most excited about is that this is the first toy/entertainment item that Rome is happy with for more than 10 minutes. He usually gets bored and/or frustrated with whatever I am trying to do to keep him entertained, but even Mr. Fussy Britches cannot resist the allure of dayglow animals twirling overhead to classical music. Ah... magic.
Oh... and as you can see, Roman has become an expert thumb-sucker. He used to just shove his whole fist in his mouth, but now he really only goes for the thumb, and sometimes his thumb and index finger. Hooray for dexterity! I do have a feeling, though, that this is going to be a hard habit to break when he gets older... I really wish mom were around so I could ask her how she got Erin to finally stop sucking her fingers. These are the things you never think to ask about.
