A couple weekends ago, Marc, Rome, and I headed over to Discovery Lake. I think it's because I grew up in Oroville that when I see a "lake" in Southern California, I always think, "A lake? This isn't a lake! It's a pond!" But there is a mini-lake (and I do mean "mini") in San Marcos that we have been to a couple of times now. It has a really great path that goes all the way around, some hiking trails, a dock, and a play area for the kids at the entrance. It's a pretty fun little spot, so we decided to go take a walk the other day since it has been so nice down here recently. So we took our walk, Rome grabbed some leaves and some rocks to carry around, we looked at the ducks, and then I got a bit embarrassed because Rome wouldn't stop pointing at the person in the power-scooter-chair thing... I know there is probably a word for this, but I am drawing a blank right now. I know that he was more fascinated in the motor-chair than the person, but I can only imagine that the disabled person in the chair probably didn't appreciate my son pointing and yelling, "That!" the whole time we were on the dock. Anyhoo, after that little encounter we went up to the play area, and while we were there Romey made a little friend and played in the sand. We were getting ready to go when I noticed that there was a sign that said that the fountain water was for wading only, and that we shouldn't drink it. I looked around and saw that there was in fact a fountain, a big fountain, and it only turned on at certain times during the day. Well, we just had to stick around and play, and I am so glad that we did. Rome had so much fun! And of course I didn't bring a change of clothes because I didn't realize that Rome was going to get soaked, but at least I had a dry diaper and a blanket to get him home in.
