Camping!!

Have I ever told you how much I do NOT envy the lives of frontier women?? No. Well, I don't. I had never really thought about it before until last weekend when we took Roman camping for the first time. Marc was more than just a little tentative about taking Rome camping since we would have to pack so much baby stuff, and we wouldn't have all the modern conveniences that we do at home, but we rarely get the opportunity to go camping with our friends, so I jumped at the opportunity, and I am so glad that we went. Jaime, Beau, Trent, April, Marc, Roman, and I were able to spend the whole weekend together out in the fresh air and sunshine, and we had such a good time. The first night we were there was May 6th, so we had a Seis De Mayo party. We had some festive accessories and delicious food, and I had my my first margarita in who-knows-how-long. Mmmmm margaritas. I think they're even better when you take a year off. It was a very good night.

Okay, the not so great thing about camping was that it was FREEZING at night. We were so uncomfortable that first night that the boys actually headed down the hill the next day to get more blankets and layers so that we could try to bundle up even more. At night Roman was super bundled: footie-jammers, sweatpants, hoodie, beanie, and a fleece sleepsack. Even with all this, he still slept in between Marc and me, and I was still worried that he was too cold. I was just SO happy that he decided to sleep through the night while we were there; I can only imagine how awful it would have been to de-layer in order to feed him. I guess even Roman realized it was too cold for that nonsense. In the mornings I sat in the car with the heater on to feed and change him. At 8 am on day one my car thermometer read 41 degrees. No thank you. Other than that we had a great time of catching up, eating, walking, and playing bocce ball. It was such a nice relaxing weekend, and the trip made me much more confident about camping with my family in June. Round two, here we come!
